They're creepy and they're kooky, Mysterious and spooky, They're all together ooky, The Addams Family.

 Everyone knows the Addams Family, they are the most popular creepy family of all time! Unless you have weird neighbours than make them the second.
The Broadway Musical hit smash with a cast of talented Australian actors is coming to the Sydney Capitol Theatre in March. Are you ready to see Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Grandma, Wednesday, Pugsley and Lurch come to spooky and spectacular life?!

The musical adopts an original Addams Family story line with Wednesday falling in love with a smart, young man from a respectable and 'normal' family of which she doesn't want her mum to know.
Gomez now has to carry this secret from his beloved wife Morticia that all comes to head as the family host a dinner party for Wednesday's 'normal' boyfriend and parents that ends pretty frightfully and fatal.

- Meet the family -

Wednesday is your typical moody teenage with some weird hobbies and to be her friend you'd probably have to come in a coffin.

Uncle Fester is the awesome uncle you wish you had, a bit mad and loopy but you know he's all about the fun...and dynamite!

Not much between the ears with this guy, but he's a blooming good butler. Good old Lurch, keep up that glowing personality!

Why not create the perfect love scene for your partner with some amazing recipes and drinks that will have them eating out the palm of your hand by the end of the evening (that’s if you forgot the cutlery). After all  food is the best seductive technique and of course drink, but that just blurs it which is a good technique too.

- Chocolate Strawberries -

Simple but so good and pretty standard for Valentine’s Day. - Recipe by Dixie Elliott
* 150g milk chocolate *
* 150g dark chocolate *
* 150g white chocolate *
* 750g large strawberries, washed, dried *

What you’ve got to do…

1) Break the milk chocolate in to pieces, be careful no bits fall in your mouth, it happens believe me. Then place the pieces in to a heat-proof bowl, then you need to line the baking tray with baking paper.
2)  After that you need to put a pan of one-third water on the boil, when it start bubbling reduce to low and place over place chocolate bowl over saucepan (don’t let bowl touch water). Stir with a metal spoon until smooth. No licking.
3) Dip one-third of the strawberries into chocolate. Place onto tray. Repeat with dark and white chocolate. Refrigerate until set.

- Oysters with champagne sauce -

* 1 French shallot (eschalot), finely chopped *
* 125ml (1/2 cup) thickened cream *
* Freshly ground white pepper *
* 12 (1 dozen) natural oysters (such as Sydney rock oysters), in the half shell *
* Chopped fresh chives, to serve *

What you’ve got to do…

1) First all you need place the shallot and champers in to a saucepan over medium heat and bring it to the boil. Reduce the heat to a medium-low and let it simmer for about 3 or 4 minutes till they have reduced by half.Then add your cream and season with white pepper and let it simmer for a further 3-4 minutes until the sauce is thick and creamy.
2) Preheat grill on high. Scatter rock salt over the base of 2 small heatproof serving dishes. Arrange the oysters on the rock salt. Pour the cream mixture evenly among the oysters. Cook under grill for 1-2 minutes or until golden. Set aside for 2 minutes to cool slightly. Sprinkle with chives to serve.

- Beef & Beer Pie -

For mains why not give your man what he really wants, a BIG pie! - Recipe by Sarah Cook
*1 onion, chopped*
*1 small celery stick, chopped*
*2 tbsp butter*
*2 tbsp plain flour*
*700g beef shin, feather blade or stewing steak, cut into large chunks*
* 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce*
*2 beef stock cubes*
*2 sprigs tyme*
*540ml can dark ale or beer*
*1 egg, beaten*
*A few pinches poppy seeds*

What you’ve got to do…

1) Heat oven to 160C/140C fan/gas 3. Using a flameproof casserole dish with a lid, soften onion and celery in the butter. Stir in the flour until it has disappeared, then stir in the beef and Worcestershire sauce. Crumble in stock cubes and add thyme. Pour over ale, bring to a simmer, then cover and cook in the oven for 2½ hrs. Remove lid and cook for another 30 mins – this should thicken the sauce nicely.
2) Increase oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. For the pastry, whizz the flour, suet and 1 tsp salt in a food processor until there are no suet lumps. Keeping the motor running, dribble in 1 tbsp water at a time until the pastry starts to come together, then tip onto a lightly floured surface and bring together with your hands.
3) Roll out half the pastry and use to line a 20-22cm pie dish. Using a slotted spoon, spoon in all of the meat, then pour over some of the sauce until the meat is just coated. Put the rest of the sauce into a saucepan. Roll out the remaining pastry to cover the pie. Trim the edge with a small, sharp knife, then crimp or fork the edges to seal. Make a small heart from cuttings. Brush top of the pie and heart with beaten egg, then dip heart into poppy seeds and stick to top. Bake for 30-40 mins until golden brown and crisp. Reheat sauce and serve with the pie along with some mash and greens.

You can’t just be having cocktails all night, so spread it out with some nice wine.
This is French sparkling wine that is aptly named Je T’aime (I love you) saves on getting her a card with it on. This wine gives of strawberry and raspberry aromas and leaves a sweet fruit taste in your mouth. This is rather cheap wine that goes well with milk chocolate.

Valentine’s Day Party Ideas

Need a party idea for Valentine’s Day? Are you single and just see it as another day and don’t really want to see everyone all loved up and smooching? Well the best way to do that is to throw a party, get loose and maybe find love!

Traffic Light Party

A great party idea and to really know who’s available without having a big sign on your head is throwing a traffic light party! All you need to do is invite loads of people and tell them to come in either:  Red = Taken. Amber = Undecided. Green = Single – according to there ‘relationship’ status. Easy.

RED: I’m taken but…

Amber: Call me maybe…

Green: I’M SINGLE. Go.

- BYO mate party -

A great way to meet others and mingle is a BYO mate party where everyone brings a mate or a member of the opposite sex that they just wouldn’t date for whatever reason, get them all together in one room and bob’s your uncle. There might be some awkward silences, match making, hook ups, it’s kinda like speed dating but more fun.

Nothing sets the mood better then some good music, and for this kind of party you don’t really want any awkward “I’m just going to sit in the corner” music on, you want ‘get your butt on the dancefloor’ choons!
Maybe later on in the evening when people have had a few and have opened up, pop this classic on and see what happens…

- Chocolate Tasting Party -

We all know that chocolate can satisfy more than any man can, so why not celebrate the best love affair you have by throwing a chocolate party!

Invites set the mood for any party, so why not make a special personalized chocolate party invitation to get them salivating at the thought of it.

Chocolate Cocktails:

Drink is good, chocolate is good = drink with chocolate, VERY good. Why not get creative and come up with some special drinks to get everyone in the mood.

- Chocolate Cherry Baileys -

1/2 oz coffee liqueur (such as Kahlua)
1/2 oz grenadine (red)
1/2 oz Irish cream
Mixing instructions:
Begin with a layer of red grenadine, slip on a layer of Kahlua and top with a tasty layer of Irish cream liqueur.
See more ideas here.

The best times are mid-afternoon or mid-evening. The timing should be one to two hours after you’ve had lunch or dinner and are no longer hungry, but have had ample time to digest and are ready to taste.

Red and gold are great Valentines colours, and why not set up a tasting table with all different types of chocolate with score cards so your guests can rate them, kind of like speed dating but this one your always guaranteed a bittersweet ending.

- Fantasy Party -

Have you ever pretended that your boyfriend is Johnny Depp and you have an amazing life together? No? Ok just me.  Well now you can see everyone’s fantasy by asking all your guests to come as who they most desire.

Costume Ideas:

 Everyone has a crush on a musician of some kind whether it’s Justin Bieber or Meat Loaf.
Superheros are always sexy, none more so than Wonderwoman!
Firemen are sexy and are a lot of women’s fantasies of a perfect man, because of the heroism of the profession and of course the hot bod.

- Uniform Party -

Everyone looks good in uniform, style and humor is the beat of this gig-make it a uniform theme where doctorspilotscheerleadersfireman and sailors all have the same job-having fun…Strippers shouldn’t be the only ones who get to masquerade as police officers and firemen right?

Why not book a room in a club for the night where you can host your own party? If you have a lots of people you could probably get away with some freebies or exclusive treatment being the professionals you are.

Let people know what’s going down, send out an e-vite and tell everyone to get in touch with there inner professional and get loose for the night. Why not throw in a prize for the best dressed too, that’s something to put on your CV.

Don’t worry about the decor:

At this party your mates will be the decor, you want eye candy, drinks and food. Why not ask one of your beefcake mates to dress as a bouncer for the night, frisky – hey it’s my job to frisk!

We hope you have LOVEly Valentine’s Day, love from Costume Box :)
