Top Shelf Collectors Edition Costumes

There are a ton of Officially Licensed costumes on the market these days. With costume suppliers like Rubie's on the ball to release characters for everything from Avatar to Zorro, you can rustle up a Beetlejuice or Ghostbuster for anywhere between $40 to $100. They look pretty good, and definitely do the job for your everyday fancy dress needs, but every once in a while there's a costume you just don't want to settle for less than the best on.

If you are looking to make a serious impression, or fancy yourself a collector, you've got a few options. You can register with Christie's, the auction house, and wait for the original costume you've had your eye on to come up. This can be expensive - the pistol held in a movie poster for the Bond film From Russia With Love recently sold for $415,000. Or you can buy a new house, and order one of Rubie's Grand Heritage Collection costumes with the left-over change. Available from online retailers like Costume Box, these are usually made with solid materials, based more closely off the original set costumes, and worth the price if you are a serious fan.

Top Selling  Collector's Costumes at Costume Box:

1. Batman - Dark Knight
"You wanted me, here I am." This thing is bomber! It comes with a black under-armour bodysuit, molded chest and leg armour, gauntlets, utility belt, black satin cape, boot covers, and a full over-the-head mask. The cape is deluxe: double sided heavy satin with two rods sewn into the front to act as handles so you can animate your actions. You might catch yourself climbing onto the roof after dark, looking for trouble! Check here for sizing and shipping options.

2. Darth Vader - Star Wars
"The force is strong with this one!" Vader and Batman have a lot of similarities: both are black, wear capes and helmets, and talk kinda funny... but Darth Vader carries a light sabre! Score! This costume includes a jumpsuit with faux-leather pants and sleeves, flaring cape designed from Lucas Studios original patterns, gauntlets, heavy duty injection molded plastic armor pieces: collar, shoulder guards, boot tops, chest piece, and belt. The mask and helmet are cast from the original Lucas Studio molds! How good! They even throw in a Breathing Device, so you can block out Batman talking in that low, raspy voice!

3. Imperial Storm Trooper - Star Wars
Admit it, you've said to yourself "I need a proper Stormtrooper costume" at least once in your life! Okay, maybe you were 12 when you said it, but now you're an adult and no one is going to tell you what to spend your paper route money on! This suit is made of durable, injection molded plastic with a black under-armour jumpsuit and gloves. The helmet is a Collector's Edition, and features foam inserts for comfort. 4. Chewbacca - Star Wars
"It's not wise to upset a wookie!" And why would you want to? So cute and furry... You'll be getting hugs from the ladies all night in this costume! It's a definite show stopper, with a full body suit and mask that are completely covered with hand layered, multi-coloured faux-fur. Includes the head mask and latex gloves and comes with Chewie's signature sash and pouch. What do you think he keeps in there?
