The Jetsons Group Fancy Dress Costume

Sing along: "Meet George Jetson. His Boy Elroy. Daughter Judy. Jane his wife..." If you grew up in the 70's or 80's, you will know The Jetson's well. This was a popular show until it went off-air in 1987, created by Hannah-Barbera of The Flintstones fame. The show depicted life in the future as perceived at the time of its creation in the 1960's. Everything was efficient, food was instant, robots were everywhere, and life existed inside a dome of oxygen rich air.

Back in the 60's, when there was no such thing as Computer Generated Imagery, cartoons were one of the first mediums to explore ideals of future life on earth (or in the heavens as is the case with The Jetson's). It has since become a cultural reference to all things futuristic! Check out this piece Life Magazine did on Jetson's gadgets that came true, here's the slide show:

There's a Jetson's Movie in the works at the moment, with the release date set for sometime in 2012. Until then you can check out for more info on The Jetson's.

Jetsons Costumes
The Jetson's consisted of a typical 60's family unit: George and Jane Jetson were the model parents, with Dad working for Spacely Sprockets and Mom taking care of the home and family life. Kids Elroy and Jane made sure to give their parents a hard time, always with a certain amount of comedy and a life lesson learned for any trouble they created. Rosie the robot maid and the family dog Astro rounded out the cast. Check out these costumes from Costume Box for inspiration:

  1. Costumes are known to be a quirky, fun aspect of fashion. Although fashion shows to showcase wondrous outfits at time, including topless women, there are some forms of fashion that should never be worn in public. However, the costume is a perfect form of moderation between the crazy and the acceptable.
